Folks,
Sometimes it is tempting to avoid the news. It is filled with so much mayhem and tragedy.
Our spirits, however, can be lifted high and higher today with the news that CODEP folks – our partners in Haiti – have completed the spring planting of 297,350 seedlings. Each one was grown from a gathered seed in one of the 41 CODEP nurseries starting last November.
You have to admit that it is simply stunning. 750 impoverished, mostly uneducated, rural people have honed their skills to transform their beloved mountains back to lush bird-filled forests. Planting over half a million trees every year is their prayer for the future.
And now they begin the next cycle – gathering, drying and sewing seeds in the nurseries to be ready for the fall planting.
Their persistence lifts us all.
