Dear Folks,
It is well worth our time to pause and reflect on why we are all working so hard to reforest Haiti. Why exactly do trees matter so much? Here’s the fast list:
1. Fighting Climate Change: Trees absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and produce oxygen.
2. Oxygen Production: Trees provide some of the oxygen we breathe.
3. Protecting Biodiversity: Forests are home to a wide variety of animal and plant species.
4. Flood Prevention: Tree roots stabilize the soil and prevent erosion.
5. Improving Air Quality: Trees remove air pollutants from the atmosphere.
6. Regulation of the Water Cycle: Trees help maintain hydrological balance.
7. Economic Support: Forests provide wood, fruit, medicine, and other resources.
8. Mental and Physical Wellness: Being close to nature positively impacts mental and physical health.
9. Protection Against Natural Disasters: Trees serve as barriers against strong winds, avalanches, and more.
10. Cultural and Historical Heritage: Forests hold significant cultural and spiritual value.
Each of these reasons alone justifies the work we do. Taken together, they remind us of one simple truth: Trees are Life.
