Folks,
By now everyone has seen the headlines: Haiti is in a state of siege following the assassination of President Moise.
CODEP is OK. I am OK. But, Haiti is in shock.
Overnight four people were killed by police and two more arrested for involvement in the assassination.
Here in the CODEP world, we are staying in our homes, drawing the curtains, and watching for any news updates. It has been a chaotic number of months as Haitians have become more and more upset at the government. Routine activity such as travel to Port au Prince was being disrupted by gang roadblocks, fires, and violent incidents. We are now digging deep to cope with what’s next.
Haiti has been through so much. But right now the “digging deep” is what CODEP knows how to do. We stay in place, work the soil, nurture any seeds we can find. And we plant. The cycle of violence lays everything to waste. The cycle of planting raises hope and possibilities for the future.
Keep all of CODEP — its people, seedlings, trees, and hopes — in your prayers.
