HRP/CODEP Mentoring Program and Research Forests
Launched in 2021In 2021 Haiti Reforestation Partnership combined efforts with the CODEP Animators to launch a mentoring program to nurture the next generation of reforestation and agro-forestry leaders. A third class is about to graduate!
The basic program is a one-year mentorship for local school graduates
- Hands-on experience working and learning with Chef Ekips (team supervisors) and Animators
- Visiting experts to share innovation and notions such as carbon sequestration
- Ten students selected annually by the Animators
- A monthly stipend and transportation expenses for each student
- A certificate that cites experience granted after two years
- Guytaud Brioche, liaison Animator to the program.
- Evens Robert, part-time staff member responsible for the program.
The longer term vision is to add Research Forests
- To introduce innovation in reforestation and agro-forestry practices
- To include land parcels for various experimentation and learning — lowlands, higher plains, and differing elevations.
The program is building a cadre of new CODEP leaders. Eventually, it can also offer a center of learning and research for similar efforts in Haiti and beyond.
