Folks,
Tree planting in Haiti is not a whimsical effort. Our CODEP partners are highly disciplined about reviews, audits, and documentation.
Each leader has to report on his/her team’s work — types and numbers of trees planted — and this information is recorded on a master sheet. Note in the picture that 242,032 planted seedlings are accounted for between July and December 2020.
Three leaders visit each of the sites and determine if nurseries are orderly and tree planting is done correctly. Only then are people issued a small payment for their efforts. “Small” hardly describes it. Workers get less than $20 USD for working two days/week for six months! Furthermore, some people get a reduced payout because their work isn’t deemed up to snuff.
CODEP people mean business. They have learned over three decades how important quality and accountability are. It’s an extraordinary pleasure to work with people who live in such a chaotic world and yet insist upon excellence.

PS: It’s obvious, but I have to say it anyway: All this is done WITHOUT computers.
