“Before the trees, there is the work.”

Dear friends,

Spring is coming.

Not as a season marked on a calendar, but as something already taking shape across the hills of CODEP.

It’s in the soil being prepared. In the seeds being planted. In the quiet, steady work happening every day—laying the foundation for what comes next.

Because while you may see gardens today, what is truly being prepared is reforestation.

Across the region, 43 community gardens are now planted—not only to provide food, but to support the broader work of restoring the land.
These gardens are essential.
They nourish families.
They generate income.
And they create the conditions that make long-term reforestation possible and sustainable.

At the CODEP compound, this vision is also taking root.
A vegetable garden now provides fresh food on a regular basis, supporting those who live and work there—those who will continue leading this work forward.

Nearby, Jameson’s tomato plants are already beginning to produce, small but powerful signs that growth is already underway.

This is what preparation looks like.
Not waiting. Not hoping.
But building—step by step—toward a future where trees can return and remain.

On March 1st, another important piece was added.
The CODEP store opened its doors, offering products grown directly from these community gardens. What begins in the soil is now strengthening a local economy—one that supports the people who are restoring the land itself.
And there is more ahead.

A chicken project is currently under construction, adding another layer of sustainability for the community. We look forward to sharing more with you soon.

For now, we invite you to see this moment through the work of Group Faude and Group Eledè, whose efforts you will find reflected in the images we are sharing.

This is what “Spring is coming” means in Haiti.
It means preparation.
It means provision.
It means that the work of reforestation is already in motion, even before the first trees of the season are planted.

But none of this happens on its own.

It happens because of YOU.

Your support makes it possible to prepare the land, sustain the people, and carry forward the long-term work of restoring Haiti’s tree cover.

As we enter this new season, we invite you to be part of what is growing.
If you have been considering giving—this is the moment.
