Folks,
Haiti has been celebrating Flag Day since 1803. It was in May that year that the Congress of Arcahaie brought together the various factions in Haitian society, formed an army, and adopted a flag — all as crucial steps in their revolt against French colonial rule.
Last week schools marked the celebration and today they are closed for the national holiday. It is an exciting and proud moment for Haiti. And, it is an inspiration to all of us to remember the Haitian people’s courage and historical accomplishment in wresting themselves away from a powerful and dominating regime.
