Haiti Reforestation Project

Folks,

For years I have been tracking one of the children – now young man – in our CODEP community, Wisterley “Kingzer” Cerant.. He has recently graduated from college with a data degree. Jobs are hard to land in these confusing and difficult times so he is working in Port au Prince as a security guard.

Recently, the Board approved hiring Kingzer to apply his data skills to the task of creating a more legitimate inventory of the CODEP forests.

Kingzer will be using state-of-the-art forest measurement equipment and techniques. He will be randomly sampling the trees on the CODEP lands where HRP has worked to reforest over the past four decades. The results of his tree measurements will be used to calculate the standing stock of our project areas.

This inaugural inventory will be used to improve HRP/CODEP operations, evaluate opportunities to market carbon credits, and may become the basis for future inventory projects that utilize remote sensing data provided by NASA.

How cool is all that!

Executive Director
