Folks,

Last year was “epic” for our Haitian colleagues.  They planted more trees than ever before.  I know we are well into 2022 now, but I can’t let go of one story about that record breaking work.

The CODEP Animators (leaders) and I were having our regular meeting in November. The fall seedling planting had concluded, and we were wrapping things up.  “Amazing!” I said. “People must be very very proud of the work they did. The fall planting added up to 294,000 seedlings! That put the total for the year at over half a million!”

The Animators looked a little confused and concerned. 294,000? They talked among themselves, consulted their notes, and talked some more.

“No,” they said.  “You’re wrong. It was 294,074 seedlings.”

(Don’t ever try to pull a fast one on these folks!)
