Folks,

I am so excited!

We have been working ourselves to the bone here at Haiti Reforestation Partnership: half a million trees last year… tough Haitian challenges… mentoring program start-up… Edvy’s passing and filling his shoes…

Today, however, we can announce that we have a new staff member! Evens Robert is joining us to run the mentoring program. Hurray!

Evens grew up in Fondwa in a farming household. His family made ends meet by selling products at the local market. He attended the University of Fondwa and studied agriculture. As a student he visited CODEP and was so impressed “that I kept in mind the idea that one day I would work in a structure where people are interested in planting trees.”

Subsequently, he spent two years in Brazil on scholarship from the Organization of American States and earned his Master’s degree from Universidade Federal de Lavras in soil conservation and water management. Evens returned to his home from abroad dedicated to “working for the welfare of my community.”

Can you imagine better credentials for our mission? I should also add that his command of English is terrific which will be an asset as we tell our reforestation story outside of Haiti.

We are simply delighted to be working with Evens. The Reforestation Proteges are in excellent hands. This is a big boost to building the future leaders for this precious reforestation program known as CODEP.
